Quite a weekend!
Congrats to K3LR, and team, for another excellent team performance for the win.
Then, I need to thank the team at K1TTT for keeping us motivated. It was always
so neck-and-neck, that I literally lost track of the number of times we swapped
positions on the on-line scoreboard. Sometimes the lead would flip-flop every
time the scoreboard would update! That makes for motivation. I hope we 'pushed' them a bit as well. Second place (first loser) will be
decided by log checking.
It looked like we'd be short of ops, so I never concentrated on getting the in-band stations up and running. Apparently, I took a lightning strike on one
of the close towers sometime in the recent past. ALL of the my rotators are set
up physically remote to the station, and it appears that most of my Green Heron
Remote stuff got their RS232 chips 'scrambled' from the EMP. I also lost the
RS232's in two of the K's. This happened once before and the RS232 chips in all
the GH stuff required replacing. Most of the rotator control box chips, as
well.
So, I was the one running outside into the switch shed, locally turning
rotators. Did I mention that it was raining terribly all day Saturday and part
of Sunday? Then, came the HUGE winds on Sunday, requiring the crank up to come
down.
Midday Friday, saw KA4RRU and N3AC, replacing a rebuilt large pattern prop pitch
on one of the towers. Nothing like waiting till the last minute.
This is just the way it went.
As always, we ate well.
Great bunch of guys here this weekend. It was a pleasure to have them all.
Thanks for all the Q's.
Steve, NR4M
