ARRL Field Day (2019)

Hello all,

This was the first time we actually did a portable FD operation from the Goat Farm QTH.

We ran 2A with a K3 at one position and a Drake C-line, with lots of mods, at the other position. The FD trailer is a modified 24 foot car hauler, that K7SV and I stripped down, insulated, installed A/C in the roof, built 2 bunks, 4 operating positions and a hot tub in the basement.

For antennas we kept it simple. We used a home brew copy of a C3S, which was 2 ele on each of 20, 15 and 10, and inverted VEE dipoles on 40 and 80. A 'rocket launcher' was used to get the yagi up to about 40 feet.

Wound up with about 2200 Q's.

The location on the far side of the property about 800 feet from the main shack, in the immediate area of the remains of a mid 1800's log cabin.

Being 'good southerners' Arnie, KN4DEB, and I unloaded a couple of hundred rounds of 9mm and .45 cal ammo using the thick walls of the original log walls as a backstop. The other guys remarked that they are some 'tough mothers' as they can operate CW, while under fire...
