Comments:
Great to get back into WPX CW again after missing last year due to a wedding and
station construction. We had a great crew and everyone seemed to have a good
time for this one.
Condx weren’t bad. Ten obviously left a lot to be desired, but we’ve gotta
get used to that. Fifteen was fair Saturday and much better Sunday. Twenty was
better in the late evening/early morning than during the day. 40 produced well
considering the considerable shorter opening to Europe. As expected, with flux
down, 80 was quite good and noise surprisingly low. Not much to be said for top
band.
Ops were Frank K4EC, Steve K4EU, Chip N2YO, Bruce N7TY, Mike AC8Y, Ken KG2H,
Ken K4ZW, Sejo N3UA, Mike K4GMH, Bill KC4D, Walt K2WK, Bill K1SE, Larry K7SV
and Steve NR4M. Oh, can’t forget Coder K0DER! It was the first time operating
at the Goat farm for N7TY, AC8Y and KG2H. We hope they had a good time as they
really added to the team!
Things held up pretty well. The only failure was the 80M 4Square. The 80M delta
loop on Eur and inverted V at 70ft covered the band pretty well for prevailing
condx. New Moxon temporarily on the 70ft crank up tower played very well.
Hopefully, it will be at 170ft pointed south with a second one at 110 feet
pointing west, before the fall contest season. We finally have a second radio
on a band, working to our expectations. For the second station on 40 were using
separate rig/amp and a 4SQ. There is a mechanical lockout preventing both
stations from transmitting simultaneously. Hope to have the same on 20 and 15
by fall.
As usual we ate well. Thanks to our gracious hosts Caroline and Steve once
again.
Thanks for all the Q's.
Larry, K7SV and the whole Goat Farm team
